SOUTHWEST ALLEN COUNTY SCHOOLS

EDUCATION SERVICES FOR PRESCHOOL AGE CHILDREN

The Southwest Allen County School district, through their Early Childhood Department, offers educational services for three to five year old children who may have developmental delays. Screening, evaluation and a continuum of educational services are available for children who may be experiencing delays in one or more of the following areas: cognitive development, communication, motor skills, self-help skills, and social-emotional behavior. All services are free of charge to residents of this school district if your child meets eligibility requirements for special education.

If you have concerns about your child’s development, contact our Early Childhood Coordinator, Southwest Allen County Schools, Special Education Department, 431-2040. The Coordinator will discuss the concerns you have for your child and collaborate with Early Childhood Personnel to make plans. One of these plans may include asking for permission to conduct a comprehensive multidisciplinary educational evaluation in the area(s) of need. After this evaluation is complete, a case conference committee, consisting of parents and educators, develop an Individual Education Plan (IEP) if your child meets eligibility requirements for special education.
