I love using the Doodle Buddy iPad app for my Guided Math groups. It’s similar to using white boards/dry erase markers, but I can use one device to accomplish so much more. For this example, the students used blue and red “chalk” on the app to represent the two different addends they were using to solve their addition problem. The chalk colors on the app corresponded with the colored counters on the ten frame manipulatives they were using to explore how to make 4. This helped the students understand which numbers to write for their addition sentence—and where the numbers came from! Using the iPads saved so much time: I didn’t need to distribute red, blue, yellow markers; dry erase boards, and erasers.
